Pittsburgh, PA, 27-31 July, 2015
Local Information

Campus information:

The conference will be held in the Gates building, on CMU campus. All lecture rooms have blackboards or whiteboards as well as projector functionality. This building as well as the dorms (Resnik and Welch) can be found on the campus map.

The registration desk will be in Rashid Commons, starting at 8am on Monday. There will also be a light breakfast there at 8am. Rashid Commons is located in the Gates (GHC) building, outside room 4401. A representative of the department will be available for information from 4pm-6pm on Sunday evening in the Conan room of the Cohon University Center.

Local Neighborhoods:

Carnegie Mellon University is located in the midst of several Pittsburgh neighborhoods. The department is a 15-20 minute walk from Oakland, Shady Side, and Squirrel Hill (shown on the map below; hover the mouse over the pin to see the label). Craig St, also labeled on the map, is a 10 minute walk from the department and a popular area for lunch.

Parking:

Parking is available in the East Campus Garage ($10 per day) or on the street on Tech Street, Frew Street and Shenley Drive. When parking on the street use the kiosks to pay for parking.

Local Transportation:

Apart from walking, buses run in both directions on Forbes Ave. The 61A, 61B, 61C, and 61D all travel along Forbes between Squirrel Hill and Oakland (and eventually, downtown Pittsburgh). Bus fare is $2.50, exact change.

Pittsburgh has a public bike rental system. The cost is $2 for a 30 minute ride (pick up and drop off at any station). There are rental stations throughout Oakland and Shady Side. You must register with Healthy Ride to use the system. If you plan on using the bikes, we recommend registering ahead of time online.

Airport Transportation:

TThe 28X Airport Flyer is a public bus which runs between the Airport and Oakland, very close to CMU. The bus runs every half hour between 5:30 AM and midnight (the bus stop is close to door 6 exiting the baggage claim area). Fare is $3.75 (exact change required). The bus ride takes roughly an hour. Google gives correct public transit directions for the Pittsburgh bus system.

A taxi from the airport will cost around $50 and take 30-40 minutes.

Uber and Lyft currently operate legally in the Pittsburgh area. Uber and Lyft fares from the airport should be $37-$50 depending on traffic.
